This course covers the basic skills needed for troubleshooting product quality issues and defect reduction of roll to roll coated products. Troubleshooting (bringing quality back to normal process capability) and defect reduction (improving process capability) are related but benefit from different methodologies - both of which are covered in this course. It is intended for engineers and chemists supporting coating operations and developing new and improved products.
This is an on-line course that will be presented between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time on five consecutive dates. Participants are encouraged to submit images (or samples) of defects and list the topics that are of most concern. There will be three means of addressing specific concerns of the participants. Time on Thursday is reserved for one special topic to be determined on Monday based on participants interest (if there is no consensus, the default topic will be laminating defects). Friday will be divided into a public session, in which participants can present their defect for group discussion (if desired), and private sessions in which individual companies can discuss their defects with the instructors only.
The course is given by Professor Dr. Ed Cohen and Dr Ted Lightfoot who combine their own academic and industrial coating experience to give you the best of both worlds - focusing only on the bits of theory that can give the maximum real-world impact.
